The Great Houseplant Exchange of 2021 by the Glen Rock Environmental Commission

Plants are awesome but free plants are even better! Sign up now for GREC's Great Houseplant Exchange that will take place in March 2021. No experience in propagating plants is necessary, because it's easy to do.

Cost/Commitment: There is NO cost to participate. Also, if you sign-up and change your mind, that's ok too! Signing up will allow you to stay on the emails so you know what's happening.

Preparing: If you do not already have a plant at home that you can propagate, you'll need to get one. To get a plant for free, try posting in local Facebook groups asking if anyone is giving away a plant. Alternatively you can buy a plant online or at a store. Google "Easy Plants to Propagate" for a GREAT list of options.

Can it Propagate: Not all plants are able to propagate. To identify a plant you own, you can use a free app like PictureThis. Then google to see if that type of plant propagates. There are thousands of videos on YouTube about how to propagate.

By March: By March make sure you have propagated 5-10 plants (they can all be the same type or a variety). The propagated plants should have some good roots and be ready to put into soil.

The Exchange: The exact exchange date is TBD but we are going to aim for a "warm" weekend in March and ensure that everything is COVID safe. Everyone will bring their plants to one location at the same time. If you bring 7 plants you can go home with 7 plants, etc. You can bring plants with their roots wrapped in moist paper towels.

Duplicates: There are bound to be duplications in plants and that's ok! As people sign up for the program, we will post what plants they plan to propagate. If you want you can avoid those plants but really, it will all work out!

Residency: You do NOT have to live in Glen Rock to participate but know that you will have to come to Glen Rock on the day of the exchange.
